I posted on Facebook that I was relieved it was my last interval session before the marathon and was surprised how many people commented on my "quick" comeback. Quick? It doesn't feel quick at all I thought, however it made me look again at my Fetch log to find that only 13 and a half weeks ago I was running 1 minute and walking 1 minute for only one mile. 20 miles on an 8:4 run/walk this coming Saturday, in retrospect, really is quite a quick comeback. I've tried very hard to get it that way though, through the haphazardness that has been my training... taking days off for toe pain or top of foot pain, or ankle pain or period pain (!!!). But the one thing that has been constant throughout this is my determination to get to the start line of Cayman and to finish in good enough nick to keep up the 20+ milers after the race so I'm ready for Llanelli Ultra in February and all of the other ultras after that. Determination certainly diminishes adversity!
Today my work schedule was hectic, only for 4 out of the 5 tests booked to go and cancel on me. That's too short notice to get new people in, so I used the time wisely... cleaned the kitchen and went for my 45 minute run. I was very tired for the whole run and thought it was probably inevitable. This week I've done my fastest intervals, fastest runs on other days (post injury) and when I got home I found this was the fastest I'd ran on a Wednesday this year. Tiredness is creeping in but it needs to sod off until I've finished my run on Saturday and am ready to start my taper.
