Hard work

Today when I woke up, I expected to feel really achy and sore, but I was fine. What I did notice yesterday was that I felt sick a number of times during the day and this was only elleviated by eating something. Maybe the current amount of food I'm eating is not enough now that I'm training and working harder, so I decided today to up my intake.

I had beans on toast for breakfast and then went up to do my weight session. I did another lighter session for the deadlifts, this time going up to 50KG for 3 sets of 8 reps. I was really aching after them.... definitely proving that the higher reps of lower weight shatters me out far more than doing the 1 rep max session.

Immediately afterwards I did my upper body session, and again pushed myself more than I usually would. I was really tired by the end and felt I had worked hard. I finished off by going in the infra red sauna. I found this rather pleasant, and had I not been crunched up in an uncomfortable position (I have to do this in order to keep my head inside with the head hole blocked up with tinfoil and a towel over the top) I think I'd have stayed in much longer than the 23 minutes. So, going to the spa and going into all of the different heat rooms must be having an effect on me already. I also notice I'm always freezing, which is another indicator I'm getting used to all of the heat.

Something very random happened to me yesterday... I was sat on the sofa and became aware that my big toe joint was very achy. I had no clue why, so I googled it. I was lead to a website that said you could relieve your pain in seconds. Sounded good, so I gave it a go. I had to press with my finger and thumb around the base of my achilles and move my toe back and forth slowly. If this felt OK, you had to put your finger and thumb on either side of your achilles a little further up and close to where your bone was... again, pressing and holding while moving your toe back and forth. I did this and nearly hit the roof the pain was immense. I did the 10 reps it suggested and the pain decreased and decreased until there was no pain at all. Amazing! It felt fine for the rest of the night but was mildly there when I first got up so I did it again and all has been well. Google... it's a great source of information.

I've been considering (dare I say it?) new trainers. The two pairs I've got are simply no good. I hate going through the "which trainers to wear" thing. I've been looking at some Hokas for a while, but they are never in stock. I accidentally happened on a pair yesterday in stock so I've ordered them. I have a feeling I'll put them on and instantly hate them or instantly love them. I'm hoping it's the latter. I've had advice from a bloke who sells them, so I know I've got the right pair for me. I think they may be last seasons instead of the latest edition, but I don't care. I desperately need to find a pair of shoes with a lower profile from heel to toe. I have also made the (possibly) drastic decision of going down in size too. My Salomons are a size 7 and they got me through 12.5 very hot hours in India (mostly blister free), so maybe going up to a size 7.5 hasn't been the best idea in the past.
