Well, we are here at the airport and our plane is just outside of the window we are sitting by. It's a big un... I'm quite excited.
I told Graeme this morning that I wasnt even sure I'd be able to run this when I booked up and was prepared to go to India on holiday and be "runner support" for him if my foot hadn't sorted itself out. I always knew though that if I got to the start line of Amsterdam I'd make it to Bangalore, and here I am!
I've started getting taper pains... My back aches, I had horrendous knee pain from nowhere yesterday and last night my foot was in agony for no apparent reason. Sometimes you just have to give yourself a slap and tell yourself off for being a hypochondriac!
I read a race report the other day from someone who ran the West Highland Way. Somebody told her it was a feat in itself getting to the start line of an ultra uninjured and to be proud of herself. That's how I'm feeling now and hope all stays well for the next week and a half. I have plenty of time to be ill after that!
I also read a thing on Fetch from an ultra runner who had won member of the month. I felt very sad to read that he had trained for 5 years for his "ultimate" race and had become too injured to carry on during it. It must be soul destroying. This is my sixth attempt at an ultra... Every one of them previously being cancelled due to injury. So hopefully, it's sixth time lucky!!!
And as I look at the huge amount of steps to climb to get onto the plane, I'm wondering how I'll get back up them in 11 days. :-)
