It was a session of intervals today, and after finally realising (after a whole year) of the benefit of running as fast as possible over the given time and walking the recoveries rather than jogging them and running the intervals slower, I found I had ran my fastest intervals yet! When I emailed William to tell him I now know that walking is not something totally horrendous and not to be avoided at all costs, he simply answered, "Aaaaarrrr.... the penny has finally dropped?"
I managed to run 8.30mm pace for 3 sets of 10 minutes, which is a personal best. I was so chuffed with myself. The last interval was the most difficult (obviously) but I kept thinking how this was pushing my lactate threshold up and I just had to get through it. With five minutes to go I began to disassociate myself from the treadmill and thought of something else (still a running situation, but not what I was currently doing) and found I'm actually very good at doing that. Those last 5 minutes were a blur because I was literally 'somewhere else'.
So, I'm rather pleased with today and already looking forward to tomorrows training!
