Partials

Yesterdays intervals went amazingly well. I found the fast running sections very manageable (at around an 8.34mm pace) and I have started to sweat profusely again (which I now know is a sign my body is getting fitter and learning to cope with the heat). The temperature in the loft was only around 19 degrees... but at one time that would have been unbearable for me! I also performed my first lot of stepping before the intervals and it was about 7 or 8 minutes into these that the sweating began. I should have been brave and gone straight into the sauna afterwards... but there is plenty time for torture such as that in the coming weeks....

Today I was literally plagued with hayfever, so much so that I went and bought some Loratadine and it took ages to take effect. By the time it did, my nose was sore from blowing it so much and I had no eye make up on my left eye because it had streamed so much.

I got home and went out for my run. I knew it was windy, as all of my clients had spent the day warning me about it, but I didn't quite expect it to be as bad as it was. Despite this, I found myself running up a hill and head into it at a 9.20mm... although I admit to having 3 walk breaks in between 30 - 38 minutes because it really did get the better of me. I got back home and felt shattered, which wasn't such a good thing as today was my first attempt at partial and static squats and I didn't want to go into them tired.

As it was, I was absolutely knackered going into them and was concerned I wouldn't be able to perform the weights that Shaun and William had asked me to try. However, within 2 or 3 minutes of the warm up I was pulling round and felt much better.
I managed to do all that they had suggested, resulting in 3 reps of full range squats at 80KG, 3 sets of 10 partials at 90KG and 3 sets of 1 rep at 100KG static hold for 10 seconds. I was really quite chuffed. At the moment my back feels like it's had the most of the workout, but I know the static in particular works the core and musculature, so that is maybe the reason. (Hopefully I won't get an email back saying that if that is aching I've done it wrong!)

So, Graeme is now making tea (his penance for not making my recovery drink when asked to for 2 runs in a row... I dunno.. if you want something doing, do it yourself!). We are having a chicken stir fry and rice...mmmm!
