Yesterday I managed to run for 30 minutes on the treadmill... well, that's not strictly true... it was 25 minutes then a 2 minute walk and I decided to jog for the last 3 minutes to finish. I am quite paranoid about doing too much too soon.
I went down and iced my foot afterwards (being as cautious as possible) and received a call from David, the podiatrist who gave me the cortisone injection. He was ringing to see how I was, but the line was so bad I could hardly hear him. As it was, a few questions I wanted to ask were left unasked, so I decided to google the answers to them instead.
One of the answers I was looking for, was, how long is it before cortisone has it's full affect? After the cortisone injection into my bursa in 2009, I was told I could probably run in a week but better to leave it 2 weeks. At the time I felt like I would never run again and to be honest I could just about walk after a week. Within 2 to 3 weeks I was back running without a problem. The answer to this question on the web said 2-3 weeks for it to take full affect. I was pleased with that answer, because at least by being cautious this week I am doing the right thing and next week should have me feeling more confident about going back to outdoors running. My problem at the moment is wanting to be as "cushioned" around my feet as I possibly can. Last night I looked at my trusty trainers that have around 390 miles in them (my longest living pair to date), and whilst the heel is still in fairly good nick, the forefoot has totally worn away. These will be downgraded to "dog walking shoes" when I get in tonight. I already have one pair of trainers with about 200 miles in them and another brand new "still in the box" pair, which I may start to break in tonight.
Last night I also did my core session. This takes me around 45 minutes to complete and I find it really tough. I've swapped around the air borne running and the push throughs, as by doing the push throughs first, they left me with no strength to do the air borne running. Swapping them around worked much better. The rocking horse exercise is going much better too. Instead of looking like a wooden plank for 30 seconds I can now do a good 30 "rocks" in each set. In fact, they were so impressive yesterday, a very poorly Graeme looked up and said "Whooa, look at you go... you're brilliant at that now". I have to say though, it proper knacks!
In other news, work is going fantastic! I rang head office today as I believe I should be on a certain percentage to win the trip to La Manga, and they have me down as a different number. I'm pretty good with numbers, so I'm hoping I'm the one who's right and I'm still in first place.... competition ends Thursday at close of business....
