I've been judging the roads every day so I can try a run, however they have been really terrible. I have even resorted to holding onto walls and random cars while walking from house to car at the top of the street, all week.
Apparently we are getting a thaw, so I was looking forward to seeing how that had panned out this morning. I was walking Lincoln and could literally barely stand on the compacted snow with a layer of ice on top and a layer of water on top of that! At one point I was so scared to move in case I broke my neck that Lincoln pulled on ahead and got me out of a very sticky situation. Even at the tender age of 11 weeks and 6 days he was strong enough to pull me along as though I were on roller skates.... or should that be ice skates?
So, my trusty Innov-8's that got me through a 1 mile loop in the snow around my home last year (18 loops to facilitate a long run... God it was boring!) seem to be incapable of coping with this stuff. I have been advised that everyone going to the spa has been stuck on the hill and been unable to get there (so I was right not to even attempt it in the Beema), and so am therefore plunged into an "enforced rest" situation. Maybe in the long run that's a good thing, I often come back to training after a race far too early and I have been fighting the symptoms of a cold that has threatened since I came back from Florence. It hasn't surfaced fully, it appears the Lemsip instead of Horlicks before bed is obviously fighting the bugs well!
So, with a temperature reaching 7 degrees today and a promise of a total thaw, will that mean I can finally get to do a run over the weekend? I know one thing... I only have until Tuesday and then according to the forecasters.... it all starts again!
