I was in the car last night on my way back to the branch (as my receptionist couldn't lower the shutters with her key) when I got a phone call from the vet. I could hardly breathe as I listened to her say that "unfortunately" there was nothing out of the ordinary in the blood tests to warrant Merlins' fits. "Nothing?" I was ecstatic which I think shocked her, so I continued on to say that I was worried he had kidney disease and I'd been stressed about it all week. Apparently, for his age his kidney results were perfectly normal... no diabetes... no nothing!
So, I explained that he is pawing his mouth and I believe he needs a dental but am not prepared to put him through the stress of it at this moment in time and could they give him an antibiotic jab. She said that was a good idea and he's booked in for tonight. I will ask about some medication for his fits, however they are very sporadic and it may be he won't need anything at the moment.
I can't quite believe it! Lady Luck was on my side with this one, I think! All I could think about was I have been telling Merlin for weeks that he's going to get a puppy, but he may have had something so bad that he would have been gone before the puppy came. Merlin (and our other cat Emma) absolutely loved my dog George. When George died, they kept going into the kitchen to look for him and were very subdued (almost to the point of being depressed) for about a fortnight. I know they are going to love Lincoln (once they get over the big black ball of fluff that he will appear to be on the first day or so).
So, relief doesn't come close to how I'm feeling over this. Like I've mentioned before, Merlin is an amazing animal. I have never known a cat like him. You can call his name when he's upstairs and he comes running down like a dog would. He's the first to greet me when I get home from work and faffs around me purring and rubbing his head on my face... and he tries to nick my dark chocolate when I'm eating it. Hell, he even likes curry. I love him to bits :-)
I'm so relieved for you and I am so looking forward to meeting him next weekend!
