Is it just me, or does there seem to be much more rain around these days?
I got home from work, and I have this rule... work suit comes off, training gear goes on!
I stood in front of the window and peered out at a scene that Noah would have once built an ark for... oh, OK, that is a slight exaggeration!!!
But, rules are rules, and so off I trotted into the downpour.
Within 200 yards of my house I spotted a massive puddle that always accumulates in bad weather. The people in their cars were all driving very slowly through it (and trying to keep as much of their car out of it as possible). I figured it would be OK, and I'd just have to put up with wet feet.
As soon as I got close to the puddle, I heard a car suddenly speeding up and as I turned around, saw a 4x4 coming up as close to the kerb as they possibly could and I held my breath as the puddle formed the biggest wave-like tube and completely and utterly soaked me. I felt like I should have been on a surfboard. I did swear at this point!
Another half a mile down the road and another puddle was approached with trepidation (although I couldn't possibly have got any wetter by this point). I watched as cars flew through it making surfy looking tubes with the water. Luckily, I got through this one unscathed, however realised I'd ran the first mile far too fast at 10.15.
The rest of the run went by uneventfully and I settled down into a 10.40 pace for the second mile and 10.30 for the third. I got home and downloaded my run onto the Garmin website. It is the most consistent pace with the flattest line on the graph that I have ever achieved!
Only one more run to do before the big day now!
