....in the morning!
Sundays exercises hurt so much, that I always know Mondays' attempt at getting out of bed is going to be a struggle!
Todays circuits were quite strange, and very different from what I've done before. The instructor today (Alex), got us to do only 9 stations. I wasn't impressed as I looked to see it seemed to be mainly upper body stuff... however, little did I know what he had in store!
So, main circuit exercises consisted of lunges with 6KG dumbells, lateral raises with 3KG dumbells, step ups with bicep curl and 4KG dumbells, press ups, knee highs, bicep curls with a 9KG EZ bar, crunches on a stability ball and finishing with sprinting.
Each station was done for 1 minute, then he timed 1 minute recovery (to the second) and we had to do a 30 second "blast" on each exercise, doing as many as possible.
We were then given 30 seconds recovery and were told to stand in the middle of the room where we then did 1 minute of deep bodyweight squats, 30 seconds jogging, then 1 minute kick backs. With 30 seconds recovery, we then had to do the main circuit in reverse order for 1 minute on each exercise, then another set of 30 seconds on each station.
Then it was back into the middle where we did 30 seconds deep bodyweight squats, 30 seconds jogging, 30 seconds kick backs followed by 30 seconds jogging and then straight into the main circuit for a 30 second stint... apart from the very last exercise (which for me was lateral raises) where we had to do 1 minute!
Phew, I was aching. In fact, I went to get a drink, and my arms were shaking. Graeme said his hamstrings were hurting from the lunges.
This afternoon I went back to the spa and did my deadlifts. Hopefully this time next week I will have my own olympic barbell and can do these at home. Today I did 10 reps at 31.6KG, 8 reps at 40.6KG, 6 reps at 49.6KG and a final 3 reps at 58.6KG.
That is now the full amount that the barbell at the spa can take, and is almost my full bodyweight. I have to say though, it was really really tough, and I can't imagine being able to lift much more for quite some time.
So, tonight we are having fajitas and I am indulging in a glass of Shiraz. Hopefully it will dull the impending pain I'm about to feel....
